What is it?
The Tyco 601FEx-M Intrinsically Safe Marine Conventional Flame Detector is an advanced point-type infrared flame detector specifically designed for use in marine environments. It is approved by all major classification societies and forms part of the Tyco 600 series of conventional detectors. Thanks to its intrinsically safe construction, the detector can be safely installed in hazardous (explosive) areas. Its compact, discreet design fits standard detector bases, while the integrated 360° alarm LED provides clear visual indication.
How does it work?
The 601FEx-M uses solar-blind infrared technology, which detects only the specific IR radiation emitted by flames, eliminating false alarms caused by sunlight or other harmless IR sources. When the detector senses a fire, such as a 0.1 m² flame at a distance of up to 20 meters, it immediately sends an alarm signal to the fire detection system. The built-in 360° alarm LED lights up to visually confirm activation. For routine testing, a T110 infrared test source can be used with a separate adapter.
What problems does it solve?
Fires on board ships can spread rapidly, posing a severe threat to crew, cargo, and the vessel itself. Marine environments also involve factors such as humidity, salt, and vibration, which can impair the performance of conventional detection systems. The Tyco 601FEx-M addresses these challenges by providing fast and reliable detection of open flames, even under harsh conditions. Its solar-blind technology minimizes the risk of false alarms, while its intrinsically safe design ensures it can be deployed in hazardous areas without risk of ignition. As a result, this detector enhances operational continuity and ensures the safety of everyone on board.
