Rivertrace SMART ESM – SCRUBBER WASHWATER MONITOR

What is it?
The Rivertrace SMART ESM is an advanced monitoring system specifically designed for continuous measurement of scrubber washwater quality onboard ships. The system monitors key parameters in real time such as pH, temperature, turbidity, and the concentration of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). These parameters are essential for ensuring environmental compliance according to international maritime regulations such as IMO MEPC.259(68).

How does it work?
The SMART ESM system uses modular sensors that are easy to install and replace thanks to its plug-and-play design. Each sensor is specialized in measuring a specific parameter and is automatically cleaned to prevent fouling and measurement errors. Measurement data is displayed on an intuitive 10-inch touchscreen, which also provides access to historical data. With built-in data logging and communication options via Modbus and Ethernet, the data can be easily accessed and integrated into onboard automation systems.

PAH Range & Accuracy / Measurement Principle:
The measurement range of 0 to 4500 μg/L PAH with an accuracy of 5% and UV fluorescence as the measurement principle corresponds to how the system detects polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
Turbidity Range & Accuracy / Measurement Principle:
Turbidity from 0 to 500 NTU, with high accuracy (0.1 NTU up to 100 NTU) and IR scattering as the measurement method, is typical for this type of sensor.
pH Range & Accuracy / Measurement Principle:
pH range of 0 to 14, accuracy of 0.1 pH, using a pH electrode, is standard for water quality monitoring.
Temperature and Pressure:
Temperature range of 0°C to 40°C (optionally higher with heat exchanger) and pressure range of 1 to 9 bar with an optimum measuring pressure of 3 bar fit the requirements for process water monitoring.
Air Supply and Flow:
Required air pressure of 4 to 6 bar and air consumption of 450 mL/hr, plus water flow of 1 to 4 L/min, are typical for automatic cleaning and measurement systems like this.
Electrical Specifications:
Supply voltage of 230 VAC, MODBUS and 4–20 mA outputs are industry standard for integration into onboard automation systems.
